Five Minutes - A Small Sacrifice with Big Impact

iStock_000002162622XSmall-5mins.clock.jpgFive is a small number. All Jesus needed to feed 5,000+ people was five loaves and two fish from a little boy with a BIG HEART.

As David ventured out to defeat Goliath, he stopped to gather five smooth stones. Of course, the job was completed with only one stone (and his BIG FAITH in our HUGE GOD!), but those other four stones didn't hurt any.

Today I am asking for five minutes of your time. You see, the book I authored, Secret Sin: When God's People Choose Abortion is listed on Amazon.com and has been since it was published a year and a half ago. In all this time there have been only two comments posted about the book. The first is from my wonderful husband who "gets" this ministry and supports it in every way - physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. While his review of the book is a glowing recommendation, he's still my husband, and his opinion can appear to be biased. :)

The second review was less than stellar. And that's okay! Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

What I'm asking from you is that if you have read Secret Sin, and if you saw any value in it, if you agree with me that the information in it is important to the Church today, would you please go to Amazon.com and post a review?

The review section is near the bottom of the page. Simply give the book a rating and a couple of sentences (or more!) telling people why you would recommend it.

Besides helping people to have a more balanced view of the book, it helps to get the word out that this IS an important topic.

Please help me in this small way; my prayer is that it would have a BIG IMPACT on the lives of those suffering in silence with the pain of an unresolved past abortion.

I consider it the greatest privilege to serve God and His people in this ministry.

Abundant blessings in Christ,
Mary

Help After Abortion...Recovery IS Possible!

So you've had an abortion. You thought you would be fine afterward. You thought you could simply pick up your life where you left off and everything would go back to normal. That's what you were told. That's what you believed.

But the reality of the situation is altogether different.

You have trouble going to sleep at night. When you do finally drift off, the nightmares begin. You wake with a scream or in a cold sweat. But the last thing you want is to go back to sleep....

When Abortion Hurts

PensiveWomaniStock_smaller.jpgThe title of this brief article suggests a couple of things: first, that abortion hurts; and second, that there may be times when it doesn't.

One of the things I've noticed over the past few years is how there seems to be such division in our world (what else is new?) over Post-Abortion Syndrome. The debate centers around the after-effects of abortion. The question, does abortion cause pain or doesn't it. The answer, I've found is "Yes."

Juno: Part II

After "sleeping on it" and thinking it through a little more carefully I decided I needed to take down the previous post on the movie Juno.

While I wrote the article with the abortion recovery ministry audience in mind, it occurred to me that others might run across this article and feel judged by my comments. In fact, some of my son's friends had seen the movie and loved it. Of course they are teen-aged boys without the life experience many of us here have had. Even so, I would hate for them to feel judged by anything I communicated in this forum.

Being judgmental or condemning of others is so contrary to what In Our Midst, A Safe Place and I are about. And any article that communicates otherwise is inappropriate for this newsletter.

So if any of you were offended by my previous post, please know I apologize deeply for that.

Juno: A Pro-Life Movie?

juno_poster.jpgI have to warn you. What follows is not an unbiased opinion....

I went to see the movie Juno last Saturday with my husband and a dear friend. We had contemplated taking our 16 year old son and 13 year old daughter. I did the research before we left and the "sexual content" warnings were significant enough I thought we should view it before taking them. How glad I am for that little bit of wisdom!

Announcing A Safe Place

arc2.5a.jpgFor many years the vital area of post-abortion ministry has been dutifully carried out by the valiant pregnancy resource centers across the nation and around the world. They have been the true pioneers, bravely stepping forth into the deep, uncharted waters of post-abortion pain and trauma. The work they have done and continue to do remains a crucial aspect in the restoration of lives wounded by abortion.

As with all pioneering endeavors, there comes a time when we begin to think outside the traditional box. In the world of post-abortion pain that time is now. We at A Safe Place Abortion Recovery Center, have begun to explore new ways of reaching a larger percentage of the effected population, to tailor our efforts to reach this specific group in a way that meets their needs.

At A Safe Place Abortion Recovery Center we are committed to creating a safe, confidential environment strictly for those wounded by abortion. A place where they can begin to heal and to find the hope and peace and joy they lost in that past abortion experience.

In Our Midst Ministries is proud to present A Safe Place Abortion Recovery Center. Although we won't officially open our doors for services until January 15, 2008, the web site is now live. Please visit A Safe Place online for more information.

'Tis the Season -- Or not! Thoughts on "the Darker Side of Christmas"

Christmas time is here again. Bells are ringing. Carols are playing. Everywhere you go there is fa-la-la and ho-ho-ho and wishes of good cheer, peace on earth and good will to men.

But what if you're not feeling the cheer of the holiday season? Perhaps Christmas brings with it a proverbial magnifying glass, enlarging and spotlighting the unceasing ache you feel inside for the child you lost to abortion. All the bells and carols in the world can't bring your baby back, and they can't fill the emptiness or turn back the clock.

Wisdom and Beauty

I have two of those colored rocks with words inlaid in them on my kitchen window sill. One says WISDOM; the other, BEAUTY. I have beauty in my life every day. The clear eyes and beautiful faces of my children. The faithful, time-tested love of my husband. An unhindered view of the back range of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
